This mandolin showcase features Chris Thile and Mike Marshall , two masters of modern acoustic music. Chris Thile is best known as the founder and vocalist of both Nickel Creek and his current group, The Punch Brothers, who played SMF 2009. Mike Marshall, one of the world’s most accomplished and versatile acoustic musicians, is an SMF regular who plays mandolin, guitar, and mandocello in imaginative and adventurous ways. For this rare appearance, they are joined by Bulgarian-born Caterina Lichtenberg, a mandolin virtuosos who plays the entire family of ancient and modern mandolins. David Greely grew up near Baton Rouge and is a founding member of the renowned Cajun group, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.

Mentored by fiddle master Dewey Balfa, he has earned acclaim as an eloquent Cajun French songwriter, fiddler, singer, and researcher of nearly forgotten tunes, ballads, and stories. David Greely is joined by Daniel Gale on fiddle and Cajun accordion.
